Regional Collection Center (RCC)

The Regional Collection Center is a facility designed to collect household hazardous waste. It is commonly called the RCC. Household hazardous materials from residents of Jackson, Clinton and Cedar counties are allowed to bring material to one of the mobile collection events. Material can also be taken directly to the permanent facility located at the Clinton County Landfill.

What is Household Hazardous Material?

Household hazardous materials can be defined as household products that contain one or more of the following characteristics:

Combustible

Combustible -

Capable of being easily set of fire
Corrosive

Corrosive -

Capable of burning or destroying living tissues and materials by means of a chemical reaction.
Explosive

Reactive -

Capable of exploding if exposed to heat or extreme pressure. May react violently when exposed to incompatible materials.
Poison

Toxic -

The ability to cause severe injury or death if inhaled, ingested, or absorbed through the skin.

Common Household Hazardous Materials Include:

Household Cleaners -

Used in the kitchen or bathroom, drain cleaners and floor and furniture polishes etc.

Home Improvement -

Products such as oil-based paint, stains, varnish, and adhesives etc.

Automotive Products -

Gasoline, cleaners and wax, brake fluid, and body putty etc.

Pesticides -

Insect repellants, weed killers,moth balls, mouse poison, and various garden products etc.

Miscellaneous -

Pool Chemicals, photo chemicals, and artist paints etc.
